1. General information about cookies
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or mobile device by web servers when you visit web sites. Not all web sites use cookies.
Cookie files typically contain only a randomly-generated unique ID number, the URL of the website and expiry information.
Cookies are used to track your movements across the website, both to help you have a consistent, favourable experience and to help the website’s owner understand how visitors use their site.
Cookies by themselves can be used only to identify your device; they cannot by themselves identify you personally.
There are different types of cookies:
- ‘Persistent cookies’ stay on your computer until you delete them or until they expire.
- ‘Session cookies’ are temporary cookies which are erased when you close your browser.
- ‘First-party’ cookies are set and used by the website itself.
- ‘Third-party’ cookies are used by other companies such as analytics and advertising companies.
