Model Settings

You can find this section under PPC & SEO > Model Settings in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.

You use the Model Settings PPC section to create and manage the individual Model keywords that may appear in Brand or Category Ad Groups.

When you first use the Model Settings PPC section, the list will be based on Models that are Active on site but hat are not currently Active in respect to any Ad Groups or campaigns they could be included within.

Category, Brand, Model and Price will be listed. The individual Model Settings include:

Setting Description
Model PPC Name The Model PPC Name will ultimately hold the Model name and any variations on that model name that you wish to include for keyword generation. Model Min and Model Max (see below) will control in what form the keywords are generated from your Model names.
Note: If Model Min and Model Max are empty on this page the values store for the Brand or Category Ad Group will used. If the Brand or Category Ad Group also contain no values the Model Min and Model Max held at the campaign level will be used.
The reason the Model name itself is not used is due the fact that you (or your client) may want to name the model slightly differently on site as to the way people may search for the Model, so it offers complete control over Model keywords involved and the order of those Model keywords.
You can include as many rows of Model names as desired. The first Model name used in Model PPC name will be the keywords used to in any search url generation (unless you are using SSU – see below).
Note: It is important that any changes that are made to an actual Model name are reflected in your PPC Model name if required. This is particularly the case when you are using ‘Search Url’ for the Ad Groups Model keywords.
Separate Search Urls If you have included multiple Model names or variations this specifies that each row will be used as a separate search url landing page for the Model keywords. Otherwise the first entry will always be used to generate subsequent search urls as it will likely closely resemble the actual Model name.
Example 1 - The North Face Borealis (backpack).
The Model name is ‘Borealis’ and Model Min is 1.
If the PPC Keywords entered were as follows it would be unwise to use separate search urls as there are alternative terms being used as Model keywords: In this case the SSU was left deselected the phrase ‘the north face borealis’ would be the search url generated for each Model PPC name:
  • borealis
  • borealis backpack
  • borealis rucksack
  • borealis rucsac
  • borealis sale
Example 2 - Outwell Fusion 300 Tent 2013
The Model name is ‘Fusion 300 Tent 2013’
If the keywords were as follows you may want to use the SSU as all the keywords used in the Model name variations are present in the Model. They are also ordered differently which can bring more relevant search results if the search url is changed:
  • fusion 300 tent 2013
  • fusion 300 2013
Model Min This relates to the Brand Model keywords and allows you to set the Model word at which the keywords will begin to be included. If you specify 1 and the Model contains three words in its name or PPC variations the following will be included:
  • Brand Names 1st Model Name Word
  • Brand Names 1st 2nd Model Name Words
  • Brand Names 1st 2nd 3rd Model Name Words
If you specify 2 as Model Min then the first keyword above will not be included. This helps you control any possible generic Brand keywords that may unwilling be included in your campaigns.
This setting is a default for all Models within the Brand, but each Model contains its own Model Min setting which you can set within the Models PPC section.
Model Max This relates to the Brand Model keywords and allows you to set the Model word at which the keywords will stop being included. If you specify 3 and the Model contains five words in its name or PPC variations the following will be included:
  • Brand Names 1st Model Name Word
  • Brand Names 1st 2nd Model Name Words
  • Brand Names 1st 2nd 3rd Model Name Words
The fourth and fifth keywords will be ignored. This can be used if the keywords that will be generated are likely unnecessary, may result in a ‘low search volume’ flagged keyword or may cause your Ad Group to go over its limits.
This setting is a default for all Models within the Brand but each Model contains its own Model Max setting which you can set within the Models PPC section.
Excluded This will exclude the Model from any keyword upload files.
Active If the Model is active in PPC terms that means it is available to be used in keyword files and uploads, unless it has been excluded.

At the top of the page there are options that allow you to filter which Models are displayed:

PPC Model Settings filter options

You can search by Model name (search bar), or filter the selection of Models by Brand and/or Category. There are also several Status filters that can be selected/

  • Model Active Status (Active/Inactive)
  • PPC Excluded
  • PPC Active Status (Active/Inactive)
