Referrers

You can find this section under Referrals > Referrers in the left navigation menu.

You use the Referrers section to view and add details of the domains that refer visitors to your website. These might include traffic sources such as Google, Bing, YouTube and social media sources such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It could be someone's blog.

The Referrers page (Referrers.aspx) displays a list of all referrers in the system, including the number of referrals that have come from them and the query string that was used to find your site. The following details are shown:

Referrer ID: An ID number associated with this referrer.
Logo: The referrer's logo.
Display Name: The name of the referrer.
Host String: The referrer's host website, for example .google.
Query String Variable: The parameter name used by the referrer that contains the search keywords.
Number of Referrals: The number of referrals that have come from this referrer.

Note that if the Application Setting called Enable Referrals (in the 'Technical Settings' grouping) is disabled, new referrals will not be recorded. You can also switch this setting on or off using the Referrals button at the top of the Referrals.aspx page – when disabled it appears as follows:

To add or edit a referrer, follow these steps:

Go to Referrals > Referrers in the left navigation menu.
To add a new referrer, click the Add Referrer button above the Search bar.
To edit an existing referrer, click the Edit on the right side of the page.
If you are adding a new referrer, the Add Referrer window opens (ReferrerEdit.aspx).

Complete the details, as follows:

Setting	Description
Last Referral Url	This setting defines the last recorded referral URL from this domain. This sample can be used to determine the query string parameter for the search terms.
Display Name	Enter a name for the referrer. This should be something descriptive and easily recognisable as it is used to reference the referrer throughout IRP Admin.
Host String	This value is used to find the referrals from this referrer. Enter the host website from which the referrals will arrive with a search keywords parameter. Use the following format: .google (You can add variations such as .google.co.uk and .google.com for more specific information.)
Query String Variable	Enter the parameter name used by the referrer which contains the search keywords. Refer to the Last Referral Url value for guidance.
Logo	Click the Browse button to navigate to the location where you have the referrer's logo stored (only use a .png file). This makes it easy to recognise the referrer throughout the IRP.

Click the Insert button or the click the Update button to save the details.
