Text Adverts

You can find this section under PPC & SEO > Text Adverts in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.

You use this screen to create the adverts that appear in search engine results containing PPC keywords. After you configure the various parts of the advert, the IRP creates a text file that you can upload to your AdWords editing tool.

The screen presents you with a summary of PPC campaign information:

PPC Text Ads screen

You can see that there are two tabs:

  • Standard Text Ads: You use this tab to generate a standard text ads .txt file for selected Ad Groups and Campaigns.
  • Expanded Text Ads: You use this tab to generate an expanded text ads .txt file for selected Ad Groups and Campaigns based on the new Google Adwords expanded text ads specification.

The information on both tabs is grouped into the following sections:

  • Ad Group / Campaign Selection:
This is where you select the Ad Group and the associated Campaigns for the text advert.
  • Advert Design:
This is where you create the text message. You can use keyword functions (KWFs) to help you to design the message. There are separate sections for the text headline, the URL that is displayed in the text, the body of the text message and the URL that you want customers to arrive at when they click through to your website.

On the Standard tab there is a section called Device Preferences with an option to Output For Mobile. The file that is created when you click the ‘Create File’ button displays a column called ‘Device Preference’. This column is populated with ‘All’ if the ‘Output For Mobile’ checkbox is unchecked or the column is populated with ‘Mobile’ if the checkbox is checked. In addition, the ‘Final URL’ column of the file will be populated with the relevant Desktop URL when the ‘Output For Mobile’ checkbox is unchecked or will be populated with the relevant Mobile URL when the checkbox is checked.

You can also click the Brand PPC Campaigns, Category PPC Campaigns and Custom PPC Campaigns buttons at the top of the screen to take you to the IRP Admin pages for those sections.

For more details, refer to the How To Create a Text Advert article in this section.

To create a PPC text advert, follow these steps:

  1. Go to PPC & SEO > Text Adverts in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.
    The PPCCampaignAdvertEdit.aspx page appears.
  2. Select the following details in the Ad Group / Campaign Selection section:
    • Campaign Type: Use the Filter bar to highlight the Campaign Type for the text advert (Brand, Category or Custom).
    • Ad Groups: Highlight the Ad Group for the text advert. The options available here will depend on what you have configured previously in the Settings sections for the Campaign Type (for example, Custom Settings).
    • Campaigns: Select the Campaign for the text advert. Again, the options available here will depend on what you have configured previously in the Settings sections for the Campaign Type (for example, Custom Settings).
