IRP begins a process of hands on Carbon Offset by planting trees locally in Northern Ireland

IRP has planted an acre of native Irish trees in Northern Ireland and begins a journey of offsetting its Carbon Footprint.

Land was acquired and the first stage of tree planting completed.  IRP has started an engagement with local professional Foresters to understand the environment, the tree planting process and the amount of carbon sequestered.  The company is now planning future larger plantations right here in Northern Ireland.

The new plantation is adjacent to the Lough in the Strangford and Lecale area.  Even in this AONB - that is in the process of being designated as an UNESCO Geopark - the ecosystem faces substantial challenges and threats.

IRP views this as the first step in a journey of understanding carbon offset, it's impact on the environment and in facing up to its responsibilities.  Just two weeks after planting - biodiversity had begun to colonise the planted area.

Dan Loughlin commented: “The environment in Northern Ireland matters to us - and we are prepared to put our money behind it.  The IRP Ecommerce Hosting Infrastructure creates a significant footprint - and we are also concerned about the footprint of IRP Merchants shipping globally."

"We wanted to do something here in Northern Ireland and to start to understand the practicalities of Carbon Offset and Forestry.  We plan to scale this up in next year's planting season and to preserve and restore land in this AONB."

IRP aspires to take a leadership position in this area and these first steps have been a great learning opportunity working with local Foresters.

This small beginning marks a journey of understanding the effect e-commerce has on the environment and what can be done to offset the damage
