Failed Individual Words

You can find this section under Search > Failed Individual Words in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.

This page displays a list of search terms entered by users that could not be matched on your site. This is important for you to know so that you can prevent it from happening and thus provide your customers with a better user experience. To do this, you can replace the term with a correct term, make the term one to be ignored by the IRP, or delete the term.

The SearchFailedIndividualWords.aspx page appears as follows:

You can use the search bar at the top of the page to find any Failed Individual Words in your system. You can use the filters under the Search panel to:

  • Group the results by search word
  • Filter by specific countries (as selected by the customer using their country settings). This is ordered by Total Sales descending by default.
  • Filter by specific languages (as selected by the customer using their country settings)

You can see the following information in the main grid (the results are ordered by 'Number Of Searches' descending by default):

  • Change All Actions To: Use this area to set all 'Action' selections in the grid view below (No Action, Replace Word, Permanently Ignore or Delete). After making your selection you will need to click the Update Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the screen. NOTE: This affects only the grid page that you can see and not the entire grid (unless you have selected 'All' in the 'Results' drop-down list at the top of the page). For example, if you are looking at page 1 of the grid and you select 'Permanently Ignore' as the value of the 'Change All Actions To' setting, then only the Actions on the grid on page 1 will be changed. Similarly, if you are viewing page 1 of the grid and you have selected 'Delete' as the value of the 'Change All Actions To' setting, when you click the 'Update' button, only the Failed Individual Words on page 1 will be deleted. Only click the Delete All Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the screen if you want to delete all the Failed Individual Words in the entire 'Failed Individual Words' section of IRP Admin.
  • Countries: This is the total number of countries (as selected by the customer using their country settings) in which the term has been used in a search on the front end of your website. You can click the heading to sort the grid in ascending or descending order.
  • Languages: This is the total number of languages (as selected by the customer using their country settings) in which the term has been used in a search on the front end of your website. You can click the heading to sort the grid in ascending or descending order.
  • Site Types: This is the type of site on which the search term was used (desktop, mobile, trade or 'not set').
  • Number Of Searches: This is the total number of times that this term has been searched for on the front end of your website.
  • Result Count: This is the number of results that were generated after the term was searched for on the front end. You can click the heading to sort the grid in ascending or descending order.
  • Last Searched: This is the date and time when the term was last used in a search query on the front end of your website. You can click the heading to sort the grid in ascending or descending order.
  • Search Word: This is the term that visitors have entered in the Search bar on the front end of your website. You can click the heading to sort the grid in ascending or descending order.
  • Action: You can choose from the following actions using the drop-down list:
    • No Action: Leave the term as it is, without deleting it, ignoring it permanently or replacing it with a term that will generate different results for the customer.
    • Replace Word: When you choose this option, a new column will appear beside the 'Action' column where you can enter an term to replace the failed term. If you do this, be sure to click the Update Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the screen. The term will then be visible on the grid in the Word Replacements section (SearchWordReplacements.aspx) where you can make more changes if necessary (see the Word Replacements help topic for more information).
    • Permanently Ignore: Select this option and then click the Update Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the screen to move the term to the Ignored Words section (SearchIgnoredWords.aspx) where you can make more changes if necessary (see the Ignored Words help topic for more information).
    • Delete: Select this option to delete the term. Be sure to click the Update Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the screen to carry out the deletion. As described previously, unless you have selected 'All' in the 'Results' drop-down list at the top of the page, only the Failed Individual Words on the page of the grid that you are viewing will be deleted. (If you want to delete all Failed Individual Words in the entire system, either click the 'Delete All Failed Individual Words' button or select 'All' in the 'Results' drop-down list at the top of the page and then click the 'Update' button.)
  • Delete: Check this box to delete the term. Be sure to click the Delete Selected Failed Individual Words button at the bottom of the page to carry out the deletion.
  • Preview: Click this button to view a search for the term on the front end of your website. This will open a new window showing the term in the search bar at the top-middle of the page. You can then click the Search button to see what the customer would see.
  • View: Click this button to view and add a redirect for each failed individual word. The SearchFailedIndividualWordEdit.aspx page will then appear:
